Every season, dedicated Cascade members organize several fully supported multi-day tours.   This year we are offering more diversified tours in order to serve a wider cross section of the club.  In 2012 there are five long weekend tours and five week-long tours rated leisurely to advanced. These tours travel the scenic byways of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Each tour has a cargo van to transport your belongings from one day’s accommodations to the next and a smaller van to provide snacks and on-road support.

Tours 1 – 5 and 9: Lotteries open Wednesday, Jan. 25 to Friday, Feb. 10, 2012
Tours 6 – 8 and 10: Lotteries open Wednesday, Feb. 29 to Friday, Mar. 16, 2012

Registration will be by lottery.  The lotteries are for Cascade members only.  You can enter the lottery at any time until it closes, and there is no advantage to registering on the first day. Lottery draws will be random.  Regional tours will allow up to four people per entry. This way, if your lottery entry is drawn, everyone in your party will get into the event.
You will be notified approximately 1.5 weeks after the lottery closes as to your status. A non-refundable deposit will be due within 1 week of lottery notification for those confirmed on the trip.  Registration and payment instructions will be included with lottery notifications.

Note that for all of the tours there is a stated discount for tours that go over a set number (usually 24) riders.  This means that if more than that number of riders register the final price will be reduced by the amount shown; so, make sure your friends sign up too!

What is a fully supported tour like? We start with a small group of riders, up to 30, we add interesting scenery, spice it up with some cheerful camaraderie and we take off! We will have a sag wagon to carry luggage and provide a delicious lunch, snacks to replenish our energy, water and juice for hydration, and ride support along the way. The rides are not a race, but a trip through the country. Tours vary in daily mileage, pace, and amount of climbing. See tour descriptions for details. Each night we’ll stay in a nice comfortable motel, depending on what’s available in the area, and eat dinner out at a restaurant. Breakfast will be either a continental breakfast at the motel or a full meal at a local café. The length of each day’s ride can vary from 30 to 100 miles and the difficulty might vary from easy to strenuous. The ride leaders and sag drivers make sure everyone is getting on down the road and getting what they need. The sag wagons will meet us at the end of the day’s ride with more snacks, liquid refreshment, and your luggage. All you have to do is take it easy and review the day’s exploits with your fellow riders.

Who is leading these tours for CBC?  Ken Condray, Ralph Nussbaum, Carol Nussbaum, Sue Matthews, Per Sunde, Shana Sunde, Becky Bottino, and Rod Lee.  Individual tour leaders are well-trained and have several years of experience leading tours, cumulatively bringing over 50 years of experience to these tours. Our goal is to bring everyone home satisfied and happy and we’ll do our best to see it happens that way.

Tours are fun and challenging. They take cycling to a new level. Those of you who have done RAW or other tours know that you soon forget about the daily worries of life and, at the slower pace of a bike, see the passing countryside in a new and more intimate light. You can make new friends or solidify old friendships, and you can challenge yourself to ride a little farther or higher than you usually do. You come home satisfied and energized.  If you love to cycle, treat yourself to a cycling vacation this year.

Are you ready to join one of these tours?

Try answering the following questions:
  • Have you ridden at least 40 miles averaging 12-16 MPH on the flats for at least two to three days in a row?
  • Have you ridden distances as long and climbed as much as the ones listed for the tour?
  • Have you been riding regularly over the last year?
  • Have you ridden in bad weather (rain, cold, or heat)?
  • Will you have an opportunity to take some training rides before the tour?
  • Do you like a challenge?

If you answered YES to all of these questions, then you are ready for one of our tours. Sign up now for a fun excursion! Give one of our tours a try and see how much fun it can be! If you answered NO to any, then why not take the opportunity this year to “train-up” for one of these tours next year. If you are ready to sign up, follow the link at the top of the page to register online.
